Gear Tier List

Gear decides how much loot you bring home and which zones you can traverse efficiently. This gear tier list ranks backpacks, boots, gliders, bowls, amulets, and the four-piece Tourmaline set that unlocks Zone T behind Mystic Forest. Cross-reference Backpacks and Gear for exact recipes and the Fruit Tier List so you know what to sell to afford upgrades.

Fruit Forager gear is not cosmetic—capacity, glide routes, and plot bonuses directly raise coins per hour. Buying the wrong mid-tier piece can delay Greater Area access by days of grinding.

Ranking rules

  • S — Best-in-slot or mandatory for endgame zones.
  • A — Strong upgrade you should buy as soon as affordable.
  • B — Sidegrades; buy only if stuck between zones.
  • C — Starter/tutorial gear.
  • D — Replaced within your first session after tutorial.

S tier — Tourmaline full set

Tourmaline Backpack, Boots, Glider, and Bowl/Amulet line form the endgame standard. Community consensus marks Tourmaline equipment as the best overall kit: highest practical capacity, movement tools for cliff and station routes, and the key requirement to pass the Tourmaline gear gate into Zone T.

Unlocking Zone T also ties into lever puzzles across Greater Areas and Tourmaline Stations A–D. Budget roughly 1.3 million coins plus specific rare fruits (Giant Kiwi, Lychee, Mangosteen, Kiwano, Bergamot Orange, Kigelia) across the four crafts—see Items pages for station locations.

Individual Tourmaline pieces are S on their own slot once you are farming Tourmaline ingredients; before that, they are aspirational A tier goals.

A tier — Late gliders, strong backpacks, amulets

High-tier gliders (post-Glider Update content) open vertical shortcuts to Volcano rims, Tourmaline Station C hidden walls, and crate lever zones. If a glider saves five minutes per trip, it is A tier even before Tourmaline.

Late backpacks before Tourmaline—often tech or mine-funded lines—are A tier the moment your inventory constantly overflows. Overflow means lost Mythic slots; fix capacity before chasing mutation luck.

Amulets and bowls with plot growth or sell bonuses rank A for players investing in plot slots and planting loops. Plot-focused builders prioritize bowl lines earlier than pure sellers.

B tier — Mid boots and transitional backpacks

Mid-game boots help Tundra and Volcano traversal but get outclassed by glider routes plus Tourmaline boots. Buy one mid pair if coin-poor, skip duplicates.

Transitional backpacks between starter and late tiers are B: better than default, not worth max upgrading if Tourmaline is your six-week goal.

C tier — Early leather and first upgrades

First shop backpack and basic boots after tutorial are C tier—essential once, obsolete after Volcano access. They belong on every account briefly.

Starter bowls/plant pots before Tech or Tourmaline crates appear are C for sellers, B for planters.

D tier — Default equipment

Tutorial default backpack and unmodified movement are D tier—replace immediately when the shop unlocks.

Slot-by-slot priority order

For most players chasing coin:

  1. Backpack — Never sell S-tier fruits because you are full.
  2. Glider — Unlock fastest routes to high zones and stations.
  3. Boots — Quality-of-life until Tourmaline boots.
  4. Bowl/Amulet — When plot and Index planting matter.
  5. Tourmaline completion — All four for Zone T, not just one flex piece.

Plot-heavy players swap bowl/amulet earlier—see Early Game Build branching notes.

Tech and mine gear notes

The Mines Update added parallel income for gear purchases. Mine-funded backpacks can skip a B-tier shop buy if you grind ores efficiently—still A tier targets, different path.

Tech Crates drop exclusives that sometimes beat shop gear for planting; check Crates Index before hard-buying a B-tier bowl.

Tourmaline Stations and gear gates

Stations A (Tundra), B (Autumn Forest cliff), C (Greater Volcano hidden wall), and D (Portal Plaza rear) sell Tourmaline pieces. Station T inside Mystic Forest requires all four equipped plus lever completion. Gear tier and world progression are the same problem—plan both.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Tourmaline gear worth the cost?

Yes for endgame. It is the best overall set and mandatory for Zone T. Spread purchases across stations as you gather craft fruits.

Backpack or glider first?

Backpack first if you overflow often. Glider first if capacity is fine but your routes to Volcano or stations are painfully slow.

How many Tourmaline pieces exist?

Four main Tourmaline gear pieces across backpack, boots, glider, and bowl/amulet lines—all required for the Mystic Forest gear gate.

Do crates replace shop gear?

Tourmaline and Tech Crates can drop exclusive pots and seeds that outperform mid shop gear for planting, but they do not replace the Tourmaline set for Zone access.
